10 Tips For a Successful Gluten Free Picnic + A Free Cookbook!

When's the last time you went on a picnic while gluten-free? To be honest, I don't think many people go on picnics that much anymore! It's such a nice experience to be outside with your family or a loved one, enjoying the outdoors away from your phones and the technology in the world. You truly get to enjoy the time you have with one another all while enjoying some delicious food. When it comes to gluten-free, what exactly do you pack for a picnic and how do you keep it fresh? There can be a few more difficulties when it comes to having a gluten free picnic so here's some tips from myself and Enjoy Life Foods to have a successful gluten-free picnic no matter where you are.

What to Pack For The Perfect Gluten Free Picnic!

10 Tips For a Successful Gluten Free Picnic

Pick a spot that you know will have shade!
This is super important before you plan your picnic! Many people forget that gluten-free foods don't last well in heat. You also don't want to be stuck in the blazing sun for your whole picnic so make sure to pick a spot that will have shade!

Make a checklist of essential items you have to bring!
These can even be found online to help you remember to bring paper plates, silverware, water, or whatever else you may forget. Definitely make sure to make a checklist before you begin packing for your picnic!

Pre-make Mini Muffins or other fun snacks!
It's a great idea to make your own snacks beforehand! I usually use Enjoy Life Foods Muffin Mix to make delicious mini muffins to pack for the picnic! There are many more snacks you can make too.

Know what bread is best for you!
Absolutely find a bread that you like best! Some gluten free breads get stale easily or they are too small to make a sandwich. Find a bread that will make a sandwich that you love!

Remember, Ziploc bags are your friend!
These can be used for packing fruits, veggies, chips, or whatever else you want to bring! You can never use too many Ziploc bags.

Bring a good gluten-free trail mix!
This snack is essential for any summer activity, in my opinion! I'm a huge fan of a good trail mix and Enjoy Life Foods has my all time favorite one; Mountain Mambo Seed & Fruit Mix. You definitely need to bring this!

Put ice cubes in a thermoflask or bring ice packs!
If you have a thermoflask, put ice cubes in it so you can add the ice cubes to your drinks! If you just want to keep your food cool, you can always just bring ice packs and store in a cooler too.

Pack ProBurst Bites to keep you full!
These Enjoy Life Foods ProBurst Bites are full of 6-7 grams plant based protein per serving! They are perfect for keeping you full whether you're hiking, spending time outdoors, or doing anything summer related!

Avoid gluten-free foods that will melt!
As mentioned earlier, many gluten-free foods have the possibility of melting! Some of the snacks I mentioned do contain small amounts of chocolate but they will take a very long time to melt. Overall, try to pack foods that are free of ingredients that have the ability to melt or go bad in heat.

Keep it simple!
My biggest tip is to keep it simple! You don't need to pack an entire smorgasbord of items to make an extravagant picnic. I often only pack around 4 food items for my picnic that way I know I will eat it all and I won't have a whole lot to carry. Simple is best and if you stick to your favorite gluten-free items then you will have a wonderful picnic that everyone will enjoy.
